Higher Trenowin lies mid-way between Penzance and St Ives and has wonderful views from coast to coast across Cornwall.
Our Red Ruby Devons
Our herd of pedigree Red Ruby Devons forage amongst the gorse and heather for the tasty herbage that helps to make their meat taste so good. The Devon heifer calves that are born each year are kept for breeding and the bull calves are fattened for the Farm Shop.
Our Farm Shop
The farm shop is a big part of the farm where as well as our own beef, we sell seasonal vegetables grown on the farm and other locally grown fruit and vegetables. We pride ourselves that vegetables travel only yards not miles to be in our Farm Shop! We also sell local pork from which we make our own sausages and cure our own bacon. We sell local lamb that has been grazed at Higher Trenowin during the year. The eggs are from local free range hens, and are also in the cakes and biscuits that Bridgette bakes and sells in the shop. Jams and preserves made by Brigette are available on the shelves along with local honey.
Gold AwardWe are so pleased that the Farm Shop has been awarded Gold by the Taste of the West in 2015 for Retail Outlets. We were awarded a Bronze in 2008 and were delighted to have attained the highest grade.
Now that summer is over the shop will not be opening so regular but only on the 1st Saturday of every month starting on 7th October. Then we will be offering fresh Red Ruby Devon beef, Jacob lamb, Pork, homemade Sausages and local Chicken. If you cannot make that date, give us a call and we can arrange a mutually convenient time for you to come up and collect some our marvelous meats from the deep freeze.
It has been a hard decision to make but competition from the 6 supermarkets near by, has finally ground us down and we cannot compete on price but we are far and above so much better on flavour and our regular customers still want to support us.
The Latest on Our Pedigree HerdWe have once again had a fantastic showing season and have the silverware to prove it. We returned home from the Royal Cornwall Show with an armful of rosettes and prize cards. We were very proud to be in the Inter Breed competitions with our cow Perton Buttermaid 41st and her calf. Along with Trebowland Pagan the Devons had Reserve Champion in the Inberbreed Senior Pairs and Buttermaid got Reserve Champion in the Inter Breed Cow and Natural Born Calf class too.
Camborne Show we had Reserve Breed Champion and two of our cattle were part of the team of 5 that won the prestigious Harry Cock Trophy. At Launceston Show we were in the ribbons in every class and at Camelford Show we had Breed Champion with Perton Buttermaid 41st and Reserve in the Beef Inter Breed too.
The Trenowin herd attended the 2017 Devon Cattle Society Yearling Show at Hatherleigh and won Champion with Trenowin Quiet Man (by Trenowin Montgomery out of Berry Andante) and also had Reserve Champion with Trenowin Carmen (by Trenowin Montgomery out of Heanton Carmen).
The Trenowin herd enters the Devon Cattle Society Annual Herd Competition each year and having come second twice in 3 years, this year we won the Medium Herd Section and most importantly Best Herd in Cornwall.
In February we were shortlisted for the Addington Fund Cornwall Farm Business Awards, Beef Section, unfortunately we did not win but had a fantastic time at the awards evening and learnt so much about the Addington Fund
All the cows and calves are still enjoying the lush grass on the fields and downland. We are also keeping a close eye on our in-calf heifers as they will start calving in October.
Farm Shop Opening HoursWe are open on the 1st Saturday of the month.
At other times give us a call as we always have our Beef & Lamb Etc. in the freezer.
